I watched My Beautiful Laundrette (1985) and it was pretty good. It was definitely more like a slice-of-life film and admittedly I looked at spoilers just to make sure it wasn't a sad ending. I sorta regret that and I need to stop looking at spoilers, but I also didn't want to watch a tragic gay movie and the vibes of the first half of the film scared me into thinking it might end badly kek. Omar and Johnny are pretty hot together and their chemistry is palpable from the get-go. Omar's a cutie-pie despite acting reckless/sorta scummy the entire film and I like that Johnny (who is, yes, an early Daniel Day-Lewis) is clearly head-over-heels for him in spite of the shit Omar gets them into. I recommend the movie if you're into more chill, slice-of-life films with somewhat subtle commentary on being gay during the '80s and in the Thatcher era. also, I really like what they do with Tania, Omar's cousin and potential fiancée…
